What services does AKW Wellness provide?
We specialize in medication management and brief psychotherapy for mental health conditions, with a focus on women’s mental health and ADHD.

Who will I be seeing for my appointment?
All visits are provided by a licensed and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) experienced in treating a wide range of mental health conditions.

Do you offer in-person appointments, or are all sessions telehealth?
We currently offer telehealth appointments and in-person sessions in Maryland.

Where are you licensed to provide care?
AKW Wellness provides care to Maryland residents only.
Appointments & Scheduling

How do I schedule a new patient appointment?
You can request an appointment through our patient portal or by calling/texting our office 202-240-2623.

How long are appointments?
New patient evaluations: 60 minutes
Medication management follow-up visits: 20–30 minutes
Additional brief, integrated psychotherapy is generally 30 mins. -
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation Policy To respect the time of our staff and other clients, we require at least 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations or rescheduling.
- First Instance: Late cancellations or missed appointments will incur a $100.00 fee.
- Subsequent Instances: You will be responsible for the full cost of the scheduled service.

Do you accept insurance, and which plans are covered?
Yes, we accept most major commercial insurance plans. Please contact our office to check your insurance information.

What is the cost for self-pay patients?
Our rates are transparent and competitive. Please reach out for our current self-pay pricing.

Can I use my HSA/FSA card?
Yes, HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

Do you bill secondary insurance?
Currently, we do not bill secondary insurance because each plan has unique requirements that vary greatly. However, we will provide you with the paperwork needed so you can easily submit a claim to your secondary insurance provider.

What is psychiatric medication management?
Psychiatric medication management is a specialized branch of mental health care focused on the safe and effective use of medicine to treat mental health conditions. Unlike general therapy, which focuses on talking through emotions and behaviors, medication management is a clinical process aimed at balancing brain chemistry and reducing symptoms like severe anxiety, mood swings, or lack of focus.

How do medication refills work?
New Patients: Refills are sent electronically to your pharmacy. Most require a follow-up appointment to ensure your treatment is safe and effective.
Current Patients: Please send an email to refills@akwwellness.com with your Name, DOB, Medication, Dosage, Quantity, Pharmacy, Pharmacy Address and Phone Number. Allow 48 hours time for your Clinician to send your prescription electronically.

How does Telehealth work?
Telehealth allows you to meet with your healthcare provider virtually rather than coming into a physical office. These appointments take place in real-time using secure video and audio technology on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

How do I join my telehealth appointment?
Joining is simple and typically follows these steps:
1. The Link: You will receive a secure link via email or text message before your appointment.
2. The Check-In: Click the link a few minutes early to ``check in`` to our virtual waiting room.
3. The Visit: Your provider will join the session, and you will see and hear each other just like a FaceTime or Zoom call, but on a private, medical-grade platform. -
What equipment do I need?
To have a successful visit, you will need:
- A device with a working camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or laptop).
- A reliable internet connection (Wi-Fi or a strong cellular signal).
- A private, quiet space where you feel comfortable speaking openly. -
How should I prepare for my session?
1. Test your tech: Ensure your device is charged and your volume is up.
2. Find your light: Try to sit facing a window or lamp so your provider can see you clearly.
3. Have your info ready: Keep a list of your current medications and any symptoms or questions you want to discuss nearby. -
How is privacy maintained during telehealth appointments?
We ensure the privacy of your information by utilizing a telehealth platform that is both HIPAA-compliant and encrypted.

We do not share your records unless required by law or with your written consent.

What is your approach to women’s mental health and ADHD treatment?
We believe effective treatment means more than just addressing symptoms—it’s about caring for the whole person. Our team provides personalized, evidence-based care that blends medication management with practical coping strategies and brief therapy when helpful. When longer-term therapy is needed, we work closely with outside therapists to ensure seamless, well-rounded support. Our goal is to help every individual build balance, clarity, and confidence for lasting well-being.

Do you provide therapy, or just medication management?
Our primary focus is medication management, however we also provide brief psychotherapy and coping strategies. In addition, can collaborate with outside therapists if the patient requires more of a therapeutic approach.

Do you work with children or teens?
Currently, we provide care for adolescents (age 16+) and adults.
Emergency & Crisis Support

What should I do if I am in crisis?
If you are experiencing a crisis, immediately call 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Alternatively, go to the nearest emergency room.

Do you provide emergency services?
No. We are not an emergency service and cannot provide crisis care outside scheduled appointments.
Miscellaneous

Do you provide documentation for work, school, or disability accommodations?
AKW Wellness can provide letters and documentation when clinically appropriate. Please note the following:
- Some forms and paperwork may require additional fees that are typically not covered by insurance.
- For disability accommodation documentation, you must have been an AKW Wellness patient for a minimum of three months, unless an exception is approved by your provider. -
How do I obtain copies of my medical records?
You can certainly request copies of your medical records. To do so, please ask for the required form. Once the completed form is submitted, please allow us up to 30 days to provide the records, as this is in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
